Tim Shanley 11/20

Mayor Shanley COVID-19 Update November 20, 2020

Good news!! Pfizer has applied for emergency approval of its vaccine for COVID-19 that is reportedly 95% effective. A vaccine appears likely to arrive within a month and it will go to doctors, nurses and medical providers and first responders first. Then to those 65 and older and then in phase 3 to the rest of us. It will take about 6 months from the start of distribution to vaccinate 70% of men and women in NJ but we are approaching an end to this horrible pandemic in 2021! There is light at the end of the tunnel. it cannot get here soon enough.

NJ had 4,320 new positives on Thursday, 4,520 and 3,635 new positives today which brings the total cases in NJ since the start to 297,370. This is 35rd straight day over 1,000 but is a positive that we were not over 4,000 today.

NJ hospitalizations are up from my Wednesday report from 2,446 to 2,505 COVID-19 patients today with an increase in the North from 1,169 to 1,233, an increase in the Central from 686 to 700 but a decrrease in South Jersey from 591 to 572. Patients in critical care decreased from 461 to 452 patients and patients on ventilators slightly increased from 223 to 233. NJ deaths rose 34 on Thursday and 23 unfortunate confirmed deaths today as a result of COVID—19. It is good to see the start of some declines in the hospital census.

The Governor’s ROT decreased from 1.43 to 1.40 today from my Wednesday report. On RT live the ROT also decreased from 1.29 to 1.25 today which is a trend we are going in the right direction again but need to remain vigilant to bring the ROT under 1. See link:

The new positives by FLOW towns since Wednesday are 4 new positives in Wyckoff bringing us from 543 to 547, 25 new positives in Franklin Lakes bringing them from 304 to 329 and 8 new positives in Oakland bringing them from 333 to 341. Bergen County had 1,022 new positives since Wednesday bring our county from 30,665 positives to 31,687 positives.

My next reports is Tuesday night when I hopefully will get the new numbers for the FLOW towns and Bergen County. If I don’t get the numbers they will be the following day when they get sent to me.

Keep the faith! We are going to get to the end of this pandemic as a Wyckoff family and I will always consider you part of my family. This year has been tough on everyone but know there is an end to this coming in 2021!

Please remain Wyckoff Strong as always!

Have a great night and wonderful weekend.

Tim Shanley, Wyckoff Mayor
