It has been one heck of a year. Nobody ever saw a global pandemic on the horizon and it was a very turbulent year but I hope I made the turbulence we all felt a little easier and that I am leaving Wyckoff in a better position to come out of this pandemic stronger as a community and one in which we all can shake hands and hug each other when this pandemic ends in about the summer of 2021. I feel I am not the same person I was at the beginning of March 2020. While I have always been a caring person, I feel I have become even more caring as a result of seeing the pain this pandemic has caused to us all, especially our children. I hope I have come out of this as a warmer person and that I can get to know all Wyckoff residents. I hope my updates on COVID-19 were helpful and not scary as did not want to cause fear. I just wanted to arm you with the knowledge you needed to go about your lives so you protected yourself, your family and others. I hope my hundreds of nightly reports were helpful.

On to the statistics: NJ had 2,329 new positives on Sunday, 2,745 on Monday, and 3,675 today which brings the total cases in NJ since the start to 467.622. Unfortunately this is the 74th straight day over 1,000 but not being higher than 4,000 is a trend down the mountain and we appear to be coming down the second mountain as our daily positive numbers have been declining . We will get to the bottom and get to the end of this dark tunnel with the light getting brighter each day as the vaccines are administered. I plan to take the vaccine when my time to take it is called as I will not step in front of health care workers, police, fire or EMTs or those most vulnerable who need it before me. .

After a brief period of decline, the NJ hospitalizations have increased since my Saturday report from 3,431 to 3,765 COVID-19 patients today with an increase in the North from 1,479 to 1,650, an increase in the Central from 1,134 to 1,650 and an increase in South Jersey from 818 to 852. Patients in critical care increased slightly from 718 to 723 patients and patients on ventilators decreased from 478 to 473. NJ deaths rose 20 on Sunday, 21 on Monday and 127 unfortunate confirmed deaths today as a result of COVID—19.

The news is good for the Rate of Transmission. The Governor’s ROT remains under 1 at .95 today and unchanged from the last report. On RT live the ROT decreased from 1.03 to .94 today and is in the green. See link:

https://rt.live/

Keeping our ROT under 1 will slow the spread, the hospitalizations and the deaths. According to rt.live above 28 States are now in the green, including NJ. This is good news for our beloved country.

The new positives by FLOW towns are:. Since Saturday we have 12 new positives in Wyckoff bringing us from 781 to 793 , 16 new positives in Franklin Lakes bringing them from 510 to and 526 and 16 new positive in Oakland bringing them from 493 to 509 . Bergen County had 938 new positives since Saturday bring our county from 45,535 to 46,472 positives.

This is my last report and the new numbers for FLOW and Bergen County will be sent to the new Mayor likely on January 2, 2020 as no numbers were sent out on Christmas day. I will still be on the Township Committee for at least another year and look forward to continue to serve the residents of Wyckoff and make the town we love better each day.

Please remain Wyckoff Strong as you all have during this pandemic! It has been my pleasure to be your mayor in 2020.

Have a great night and a much better 2021! Happy New Year and may God Bless Wyckoff and all its residents!

Tim Shanley, Wyckoff Mayor
