Mayor Shanley COVID-19 Update July 6, 2020
We have mostly good news tonight. NJ only had 216 new positives and is now at 173,611. Hospitalizations dropped to 861 and dropped to 369 in the North, 265 in the Central and 227 in the South. Ventilator use stayed at 4.9% and patients in critical care dropped to 187. This was the good news.
The warning sign and a bad sign is the NJ virus reproduction rate rose above 1 to 1.03. This means one person with the virus is now spreading to more than 1 person. At the height of the spread in NJ the rate was 1 to 5.3 people but we have been below 1 for quite sometime and its not good to see it rise. This is the highest it has been since April. We need that number to drop below 1 again or we may be facing shutdowns again soon by Trenton. None of us want that again.
I have conference call with the Governor's staff tomorrow and we get our numbers from the County of Bergen tomorrow night so I hope to have more positive news to report tomorrow.
Remember to keep doing what we have been doing to keep the spread down in Wyckoff. We got this. Remain Wyckoff Strong!
Have a great night!
Tim Shanley, Wyckoff Mayor
