Do I need a permit to remove trees from my property?

It depends if you are requesting to remove a tree on your private property in connection with a home improvement project and/or septic repair. Your request to remove a tree is considered as part of your building permit application. If you are applying to the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, or for a septic system permit, your request to remove a tree on your private property will be considered as part of your application. If you are planning to remove a tree on your private property, not connected with any of the aforementioned situations either now, or in the next few years, you do not need a permit.

However, trees in the Township’s right-of-way are regulated by the Township and must be inspected by a Wyckoff Shade Tree Commissioner. The right-of-way is indicated on the Township’s Tax Map and is located between property lines on either side of the roadway. If you would like to request a Shade Tree Commissioner to inspect a township tree, call Town Hall at (201) 891-7000, ext. 1000 during regular business hours from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
