Mayor Shanley COVID-19 Update 5-26-20
New Jersey had only 703 new positives today and has 155,764 positives. Bergen County is up to 18,005 positives. Wyckoff had 5 new positives bringing us to 312 positives.
NJ has tested many more people recently and hit 30,000 tests in one day in the last week. Our positive tests dropped to 6 percent which is a positive sign. Having more negative tests than positives is always a positive.
Hospitalizations continue their decent as do patients on ventilators and in critical care. As a result, Governor Murphy is permitting graduation ceremonies to be conducted starting on July 6, 2020. During my conference call with Governor Murphy's staff I was told that guidance will be coming by end of week or start of next week on opening in store sales for non essential stores, outdoor dining for restaurants and openings for our library, barber shops, hair salons and nail salons. While the Governor is allowing professional sports teams to start practicing, he is not permitting colleges or other sports to resume on a local level. We are getting closer to more openings but not sports activity yet. .
We do have to remain alert and smart though as the virus is still out there and is dangerous. We will get through this eventually and will be a stronger community as a result.
Stay Wyckoff Strong.
Have a good night.
Tim Shanley, Wyckoff Mayor
