Wyckoff’s Annual Fishing Derby – Saturday, June 2, 2018

Celebrating 36 Years!!

Young anglers 14 and younger are invited to join the fun on Saturday, June 2nd rain or shine for Wyckoff’s 36th Annual Fishing Derby sponsored by the Wyckoff Environmental Commission. The Wyckoff Fishing Derby is a catch and release event.  In an effort to cause the least distress to the fish, PLEASE USE BARBLESS HOOKS.  A barbless hook is one that does not have downward points (barbs) on the “J” shape of the hook.  Zabriskie Pond Park provides a great venue to learn about the outdoors and the environment.  Entrants must supply their own fishing gear and bait.  No fishing licenses are required for people 16 years old and under.  (Fishing licenses may be obtained from local bait and tackle stores).

The Fishing Derby brings out nearly 200 anglers along with their parents or grandparents for a morning of fun and fishing.  To be eligible for prizes, anglers 14 years old and under must register at the sign in table at the end of Highland Drive by the gazebo between 8:45 am and 9:30 am.  Fishing starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 10:15 a.m.  Prizes will be awarded in three age categories around 10:30 a.m.  Volunteer members of the Environmental Commission will be on hand to measure your catch.

Zabriskie Pond Park, located between Franklin and Clinton Avenues, will once again be the site for this fun event.  For further information about the Fishing Derby call 201-891-7000 ext. 116 or visit www.wyckoff-nj.com home page.

The Fishing Derby is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while learning about fish and the benefits of clean water.  Remember everyone has a responsibility to keep our waterways clean by not littering.

REMEMBER – “THE ONLY RAIN IN THE DRAIN!”
