Smoke Detector Inspection

SMOKE DETECTOR INSPECTION REQUIRED BEFORE HOME SALES AND PRIOR TO OCCUPANCY BY NEW TENANTS

 

Residents selling their homes are reminded that a Certificate of Compliance indicating smoke detector placement and operation is required before a home sale can be completed. This State-mandated safety requirement also applies to the owner of a house which is rented. The owner must obtain a Certificate of Compliance upon any change of tenancy.

 

An application can be obtained from the Building Department in the lower level of Town Hall between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday – Friday or on our website. The fee schedule is as follows:

 

Applications submitted 10 or more business days prior to requested inspection - $75.00

Applications submitted 4 business days to 10 business days prior to requested inspection - $125.00

Applications submitted fewer than four business days prior to requested inspection - $175.00

 *Additional Fee for each re-inspection visit thereafter - $40

 

All compliance inspections are scheduled for Wednesday or Friday afternoons between

1:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
