DISPOSAL OF UNUSUAL ITEMS
Provisions should be made by the property owner for disposal of these special items when they are planning a special project or have an unusual trash item. When applying for a building permit, the Building Department can offer information on the recycling of building materials. For example, many roofers recycle asphalt shingles instead of disposing of them.
If you are in need of special pickups, consult the yellow pages under “Rubbish and Garbage Removal.” It should provide a list of private contractors who dispose of construction materials, garage doors, pianos, furnaces or any other unusual items. These private services may also be useful if, due to an impending move or other circumstance, a property owner has a large volume of disposable materials.
Wyckoff’s trash and refuse collection is an important service program and has been designed to benefit all taxpayers in an efficient and equitable manner. It is structured to provide collection of materials that are generated by everyone; that is, the usual daily garbage and trash items. It is an unfair burden to assume the costs for collection and disposal of items for special projects; construction, or unusual, oversized or overweight items.
