Mayor Shanley COVID-19 Update December 26, 2020

I hope everyone who celebrated Christmas had a very merry one yesterday. No new numbers were sent yesterday due to the holiday and they just arrived a few minutes ago. We put pressure on PSEG and O&R to restore power to all those who lost power yesterday and give a big thank you to the Wyckoff Fire Department who handled more than 10 calls as a result of the storm. Thank you also to the Wyckoff DPW for working to open roads from downed trees on Christmas.

NJ had 4,919 new positives on Wednesday, 4,871 on Thursday, 5,095 on Friday and 4,000 today which brings the total cases in NJ since the start to 458,901 . Unfortunately this is the 71st straight day over 1,000. We are still near the peak of the top of the second mountain but will get to the bottom.

Fortunately the NJ hospitalizations have decreased since my Tuesday report from 3,735 to 3,431 COVID-19 patients today with a decrease in the North from 1,657 to 1,479, a decrease in the Central from 1,206 to 1,134 and a decrease in South Jersey from 872 to 818. Patients in critical care decreased from 740 to 718 patients and patients on ventilators decreased from 492 to 478. NJ deaths rose 103 on Wednesday, 80 on Thursday, 51 on Friday and 19 unfortunate confirmed deaths today as a result of COVID—19. I also learned that Ed Fox a Wyckoff resident also passed away from this horrible virus. Please keep him and the Fox family in your thoughts and prayers.

The news is mixed of the Rate of Transmission. The Governor’s ROT decreased from.98 to .95 today from the last report. On RT live the ROT decreased from .83 to 1.03 today. See link:

The new positives by FLOW towns are very good as well. Since Tuesday we have 18 new positives in Wyckoff bringing us from 763 to 781 , 16 new positives in Franklin Lakes bringing them from 494 to 510 and 12 new positive in Oakland bringing them from 481 to 493. Bergen County had 1,524 new positives since Tuesday bring our county from 44,011 to 45,535 positives.

My next reports is Tuesday night if I get the new numbers for the FLOW towns and Bergen County. If I don’t get the numbers they will be the day when they get sent to me. That next report will likely be my last as my term as Mayor will end on January 1st. at 12 noon.

Remain Wyckoff Strong!

Have a great night and rest of the weekend!

Tim Shanley, Wyckoff Mayor
